Original Location

St. Hilda’s Church (Closed) on east side of Parkgate where it joins St. Cuthbert’s Way.

Present Location

After the church closed in 1985, two panels of the screen were taken to the Town’s Museum, which also closed. They are now in the Library.

Dedication, Creation or Publication date

a. Unveiled 16th November 1922 by Major-Gen. Sir Percy Wilkinson, dedicated by Rev. J.A.G. Birch, senior divisional chaplain of the 50th Division.

Memorial Description

Oak screen on east aisle, used as back panels to the altar.
The names for both wars are each on a panel 4 feet 2 inches high x 2 feet wide. The names are painted in gilt lettering, those for 1914-18 in two columns and those for 1939-45 in a single column, in Roman capitals .

Notes

1. St. Hilda's closed 01/05/1985 and amalgamated with St. Columba. The original St Hilda's building is Grade II listed and is now used by another Church organisation.

2. Two panels of the memorial were saved and are now on public display in the Library.
