Original Location

St. Mary and St. Michael Church. On north wall of north aisle, (which is referred to locally as the "cartshed").

Memorial Description

Plaque approx. 18 inches high x 2 feet 3 inches wide. There is a border with maple leaves raised in half relief at the four corners. The inscription is in raised Roman capitals.

Elder son of Colonel and Mrs. Anderson
The Thirlings Wooler who was killed
in action at St. Juliens April 24th 1915
Aged 22
He twice saved his sergeant's life under heavy fire
and was last seen aiding his wounded comrades.

Notes

1. The wording on the faculty is slightly different. It reads:

"In loving memory of Douglas Macclesfield Anderson, beloved son of the late Col. John Watson Macclesfield Anderson and Mrs. Anderson of the Thirlings, Signaller in 1st British Columbian regiment who died St. Julien April 24th 1915. Last seen helping and saving his wounded comrades".
