Unveiled 20th January 1923 by Mr. T.O. Kirkup of Medomsley; dedicated by Rev. D. Marson Frost.

Memorial Description

Organ. There are three plaques which bear the dedication and names. Lettering is in elaborate Roman capitals throughout. The Central plaque is 26 inches wide x 10 inches high, the ones on each side of this are 24 inches wide x 10 inches high.

Notes

1. "The organ built by Messrs. Ward of Middlesbrough was erected as a memorial to the men of the Church and Sunday School who gave their lives in the Great War of 1914-18." A History of Blaydon District" (J. Maughan).

2. The organ was opened by Mr. E.J. George of Consett.

3. A Memorial Service was held in Trinity Wesleyan Church Chopwell on Easter Sunday April 8th 1917 in memory of JR Nixon and TH Faulder.

4. When the old Church was demolished the plaques but not the organ were moved into the new building.

Illustrated Chronicle 13/03/1923 carries photo of organ which had been installed.

Consett Guardian 26/01/1923 reports dedication including organ specification.

Blaydon Courier 17/03/1923 carries photo of organ.

A History of Blaydon District by J. Maughan, which was serialised in the "Blaydon Courier" about 1955-6, and which is available as a collection of newspaper cuttings in the Newcastle Central Library.
