1. The Church’s copy of the Faculty survives. It reads “To erect a Calvary of a total height of ten feet six inches in the Churchyard on the north eastern angle of the Church of St Chad, Bensham, Gateshead aforesaid according to the design filed with the said petition and now deposited in the Registry of our Consistory Court and with the following inscription:
“Erected by the Congregation and Parishioners of St Chad’s in memory of those who served in the Great War 1914 - 1918. Grant, O God, Peace to the living, Rest to the Dead.”

2. At some time recently, a plain wooden cross has been inserted into the base and the lettering cleaned.

3. A terrier reads: "On an open space at the north side of All Saints' Chapel is a cross of teak-wood, with a bronze Figure of Christ Crucified; standing upon a pedestal of stone. This cross (or Calvary) was erected in the year 1922, at a cost of £200, provided by public subscription, to commemorate the ending of the Great War."
