Newcastle Journal 18/10/1915 reads:-
Bishop of Durham and Hospital Work
The Bishop of Durham on Saturday dedicated the new wing which has lately been added to the Etherley V.A. Hospital and which is a memorial to the late Lieut. John Geoffrey Stobart who was killed in action on March 16th.
After the dedication ceremony the Bishop who spoke briefly said there was no work more distinctly Christian than that connected with a hospital. Hospital work and organisation had wonderfully advanced even in the memory of the oldest of those present, until there was practically no illness of the body which could not be satisfactorily dealt with.
The new building was not only a hospital: it was a memorial hospital and was erected in memory of one most dear to some present and honoured by all. Much better than useless sorrowing after the beloved dead was the continuation of the work such as would have been the ideal of the loved one who had passed away.
