Memorial Description
Plaque, very plain.
Lettering is incised centred using Roman capitals throughout,
Materials used
Welsh slate 18 inches (456mm) high by 24 inches (608mm) wide 20mm deep.
Inscription
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori.
Dedicated to the memory of
all Jarrow men and woman
who laid down their lives
for their country during
the many conflicts the
United Kingdom has experienced.
They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning,
we will remember them.

How money was raised
The money was given by all the councillors of Jarrow out of their budgets.
Notes
1. This was erected due to a lot of disquiet about Jarrow not having its own war memorial. The project took about 4 years from beginning to end.
2. The Town Hall was built in 1902.
