Plaque in the form of a scroll mounted on a black pattress. Lettering is in sans serif capitals, with the top and bottom line in italics.

This tablet was erected in loving memory of
Sapper John William Smith R.E.
Husband of the late Jane Smith,
and son of John & Hannah Smith,
who was killed in action at Ypres
in Flanders, 15. Feby. 1916 aged 29 years.
He answered his country’s call.
