Unveiled 5th November 1921 by Dr. Howard Morrison in the absence of Lieut.Col. Simpson. Dedicated by the Bishop of Durham.

Memorial Description

Plaque 6 feet high x 8 feet wide of grey marble on dark marble base. The plaque has raised columns at both sides, and is surmounted by a Latin cross at centre top. The dedication is borne in a panel at the top. The dates “1914” and “1919” are in the top right and left hand corners of the central panel. The names are listed in four columns using Roman capitals. The quotation is in raised lettering in a panel at the bottom.
Beneath this is a smaller plaque 10 inches high x 3 feet wide set on a black slate pattress. This bears the dedication for 1939-45 in sans serif capitals.

Notes

1. In 1994, the Rector said he was trying, so far in vain, to put up a smaller tablet underneath this one to commemorate the 45 dead of 1939-45.

2. The name “Duncan B. Holliday” should be “Duncan B. Halliday”.
