Memorial Description

Memorial set in oak frame. At centre top of the frame is a laurel wreath enclosing the badge of the S.&S.A. The dates 1914-1918 are carved into the bottom edge of the frame. The paper bears the names in copperplate handwriting.

The size of the central 'window' is 17 inches wide by 21 inches high including the beading. This is surrounded by a frame 3 3/8 inches wide. This is topped by a cornice 1 5/8 inches high with protruding 'ears' 1 3/4 inches. The full height of the memorial including the domed top and 'feet' (which are simple short extensions of the vertical frame downwards by 6/8 inches) is 34 7/8 inches. Full width, not counting the ears of the cornice = 23 3/4 inches (with ears 27 1/4 inches). (Brian Walker)

1. On the demolition of the church institute, the plaque was taken into personal care, as the church felt that it had enough memorials. The plaque was taken by the Independent Methodist Chapel but not displayed. They have now agreed to display it.
