Memorial Description

Roll of Honour 740 mm high x 549 mm wide. At centre top is a female classical figure with pink roses at her feet. She is standing on top of an arch which has a date “Established 1834) and the words “God helps those / who help themselves” on each side. Through the archway is a scene of a ship under construction. Down each side are cartouches containing little scenes.
At centre is the Roll of Honour . The names are handwritten in three columns in black, with the initials in red. Those who were killed are identified by a cross.

Brass on oak frame.

1. The emblems were in use by the society from 1874.

2. This originally hung in the branch meeting room at The Foresters Hall, Heaton Road, Newcastle NE6. The branch moved in 1982 to Shipley Hall, Byker, and the memorial was donated to Tyne and Wear Museum in 1986.
