Memorial Description

Screen. It consists of a carved stone screen across the bay of one of the aisles.
Plaque, very plain, 2 feet 6 inches high x 2 feet wide. There is a single line border. At the top is a cross inside a sunken circle. The names are listed in three columns in sans serif capitals.

1. The paragraph in the Northern Echo reads:
“A handsome memorial shrine to those in the parish who have fallen in the war has been dedicated at St. Benet’s Redemptionist Church, Sunderland. It consists of a carved stone screen across the bay of one of the aisles and on a copper tablet will be inscribed the names of the fallen.”

2. 2015 the tablet is attached to the right pillar leading to the small chapel on the right of the main altar.
