1. One of the original proposals for a war memorial was for a spire to be added to the church. When the church was built in 1904 there were insufficient funds to raise the tower higher than forty feet. It should have been surmounted by a spire making the total height 85 feet. The church was therefore incomplete from an architectural point of view. This projected improvement would cost £1,000.
