In Heworth (St.Mary) Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1780261 Gunner Alexander Forester, serving with the Royal Artillery who died 10/06/1941.

Heslop’s Local Advertiser 15/05/1946 carries a notice which reads:
Forester - Pelaw , Alec, R.A., accidentally killed 10th June 1941.
