Lowrie, W., Cpl., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 22/785 Corporal William Lowrie, serving with the 22nd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

He was the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Tait, of West Stobswood, Widdrington.

Morpeth Herald 08/09/1916 carries the following:

Mr and Mrs Tait, West Stobswood, have received information from the War Office that their son, Corporal William Lowry [sic], has been missing since July 1st.

Morpeth Herald 19/01/1917 carries a brief obituary:

ROLL OF HONOUR

LOWREY [sic].- Reported missing, now reported killed in action on July 1st, 1916, aged 20 years, Corporal W. Lowery [sic], of West Stobswood.

Only his comrades saw him fall,
He gave his life for one and all;
But the unknown grave is the bitterest blow,
None but an aching heart can know.-
(Deeply mourned by his sorrowing mother and step-father, sisters and brothers, and sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.)

He is remembered at Ulgham on U1.01 as Corp. W. Lowery
