Book of Remembrance: John Carpenter

In the Book of Remembrance in St. John the Baptist Church is an entry which reads:

The Times 06/06/1953

James Henry Douglas was born on the 30th January 1931.

Stephen Kerr has submitted the following:

This soldier was related to me.
James Douglas (service number 22646181), was my maternal grandmother’s brother.
James had no wife or children but he did have brothers and sisters; they were called
Jessie Johnstone (half sister) deceased
John (Jack) Johnstone (half brother) deceased
Andrew McLoud Douglas (brother) deceased
Francis Douglas (sister) deceased
Margaret Douglas (sister) deceased
(James Henry Douglas was born next)
Mary Beverly Douglas (sister)

James was a member of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment during his National Service. Whilst he was in Korea he fought and died in the Battle of the Hook. He was the only fatality on the 20th of May 1953. He was living in Stobswood at the time of his death.

I have attached a photo of James to this email, sadly its not of him in uniform.

James Henry Douglas is remembered in Korea at the UN Memorial Cemetery, Pusan, Korea.
