STANNINGTON

Stanbury, F., Fus., 1944
In Kanchanaburi War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 4275759 Fusilier Frederick Stanbury, serving with the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/04/1944.

The late Miss Catliffe of Stannington stated:

He was born in Shankhouse of good family. As a youth was deeply religious, but stole from churches he visited. Sentenced to a term of correction at Netherton Training School, he was given an excellent character, resulting in parents being offered jobs at the school. He joined the forces and was taken prisoner by the Japanese where he died or was killed. (Stannington L.H.S.)

Miss Catliffe stated that his name was added on the memorial in the church at her insistence. She is not sure why his name was not put on in the first place, but she knew that he had died in Burma.

Frederick Stanbury is remembered at Stannington on S52.02 and in Cramlington on C60.03
