On the Memorial on Tower Hill is the name of 1st Radio Officer Ernest Sturdy, serving with the Merchant Navy on S.S. Denpark, who died 12/05/1942.

In Cresswell (St. Bartholomew's) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Robert Ernest Sturdy
died 1st December 1972 aged 73 years.
Minnie his dear wife
died 8th December 1972 aged 90 years.
Norman Leslie Sturdy
died 9th March 1954 aged 57 years.
Ernest Sturdy
lost at sea 12th May 1942
aged 27 years
Ann Sturdy
mother of Robert Sturdy
died 24th May 1947 aged 87 years.
