Simon Glancey has provided the following:

Sergeant Duffus was a crew member of Halifax II W1163 GV-U which took off from Marston Moor for night circuit training. It is believed the port outer engine failed as the Halifax approached the runway and while, opening up in readiness to go round again, the pilot allowed the nose to rise rather steeply, and lost control. In the crash, which occurred at about 2220, the bomber burst into flames. Sgt Easter was admitted to York Military Hospital, those who died were buried under private arrangement. Earlier in the year, on 25 June 1942, while being flown by S/L R A Norman, the Halifax (then coded "O"), had lost its tail wheel in a landing accident.

525589 Sgt (Pilot) Jack Duncan Duffus, 807051 Sgt (Flt.Eng.) Sgt. Robert Gasken and 1387626 Sgt Robert George Wraight were all killed. Sgt J L Easter was injured.
