Milburn, R.C., A/Smn., 1918
On Vis-en-Artois Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/6391 Able Seaman Robert Carr Milburn, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 07/11/1918.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Robert was born on 11th August 1897. He was working as a miner living with his parents, William D. and Margaret Ellen at 46, St. Johns Street, Percy Main when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 26th July 1915.

He joined the Nelson Battalion on 16th February 1916 and served at the Base Depot at Mudros until he returned to the UK on 22nd August 1916.

Robert joined the Hawke Battalion in France on 26th December 1916 and was invalided to the UK on 25th February 1917 with an injury to the right heel.

After rejoining the Hawke Battalion on 23rd August 1917 he was invalided to the UK again on 19th November 1917 following a gas attack.

Robert rejoined the Hawke Battalion yet again on 14th May 1918 and served until he was hospitalised on 16th July 1918 suffering from a gun shot wound to the left arm.

After rejoining again on 21st August 1918 Robert was admitted to a Field Ambulance on 18th September 1918 suffering from Debility.

Robert rejoined the Hawke Battalion for the final time on 30th October 1918 and was killed in action on 7th November 1918.
