Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Ernest was born on 30th March 1896. He was working as an assistant storekeeper living with his parents, Henry and Sarah at 56, Charlotte Street, North Shields when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 19th November 1915.

He joined the Anson Battalion on 19th November 1916 as a trained Lewis Gunner and served until 15th July 1917 when he was accidentally wounded by a gun shot wound to the face which caused a compound fracture of his nose. Ernest was invalided to the UK on 23rd July 1917.

He rejoined the Anson Battalion on 7th April 1918 and was badly wounded on 1st October 1918 by a gun shot wound to the back which fractured his spine. Ernest was invalided to the UK on 3rd October 1918 and was finally discharged with a 100% disability due to Paraplegia.

Ernest died on 22nd October 1919 from the effects of his wounds.
