In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

G.H. Kemp
Air Gunner
Royal Air Force
2nd May 1944 age 30

Sgt. Kemp was serving with 514 Squadron. He was a crew member of Lancaster II DS633 JI=B2 which took off from Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, on a mission to Duisburg. After about 4 hours the order was given to jettison their bomb load. All the crew were killed in a crash.

31 Lancaster aircraft took part in this one raid alone on the night of 21-22nd May, each containing 7 crew members, most of whom died, some were taken prisoner.
