In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Pilot Officer Douglas Hastings, serving with the Royal Air Force who died 08/10/1940.

The headstone reads:

Pilot Officer Douglas Hastings
Tiger Squadron R.A.F.
Beloved husband of Nendie Hastings
Killed in action Oct. 8th 1940 aged 24 years.
Also his dear father
Francis Hastings
Died Feb. 29th 1960 aged 71 years.
