In Longbenton (Benton) Cemetery is a headstone which reads:

Pte Wm. Turner
Northern
Cyclists Btn.
Died Feby. 1 1922
Aged 27 years

Diane Humberstone has supplied the following:

He died of Phthisis in Fellside Sanatorium, Hexham. His daughter Jessie died around the same time. The family were living in Cambridge Avenue (we think Whitley Bay) at the time of his death.

Newcastle Evening Chronicle 03/02/1922 reports:

DEATHS. TURNER. 9 Cambridge Avenue, on Feb. 1st, aged 27, William, dearly beloved husband of Mable (sic) Turner; also Jessie, aged 14 weeks, darling daughter of the above. Date of interment later.

Newcastle Evening Chronicle 04/02/1922:

DEATHS. TURNER. - At Fellside Sanatorium, Hexham, Feb. 1st., aged 27 years, William the beloved eldest son of John and May Turner, Post Office, Westmoor. Interment at Benton on Sunday, at 3 p.m.; cortege to leave residence, Westmoor, 2.15. All friends and neighbours kindly invited.

William Turner is remembered at Longbenton on L25.01 and at Killingworth on K9.03
