George Armstrong “was shot through both legs and died in the presence of his brother, Robert, before he could be got to the dressing station. George did not get away to the war at first; but he was always eager to go. He was physically rejected several times but at last squeezed through. A gallant gentleman, with the right spirit.” He was the “second son of Mrs. Armstrong who made the supreme sacrifice”. He left a widow and one child.
