Patterson, J.R., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/798 Able Seaman John Robert Patterson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 04/06/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

John was born on 5th December 1892. He was working as a miner living with his father, John at 12, Prudhoe Street, Backworth when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 27th October 1914.

He joined the Anson Battalion on 8th February 1915 and was posted as missing assumed killed in action in Gallipoli on 4th June 1915.

A later report dated 29th March 1916 confirmed that John "was killed between the first and second Turkish trenches on 4th June 1915."

John Robert Patterson is remembered in Backworth on B1.01 and B1.03
