Hamilton, A., A/Smn., 1917
In Orchard Dump Cemetery, Arleux-en-Gohelle is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/4855 Able Seaman Archibald Hamilton, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 23/04/1917.

Colin Boyd has submitted the following:

Archibald was born on 4th October 1896. He was working as a miner living with his father John at 31, Allotment Square, near Backworth when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 30th May 1915.

He joined the Hawke Battalion at Mudros on 7th February 1916 and was invalided to the UK on 15th September 1916 suffering from Seborrhoea of the scalp.

Archibald joined the Nelson Battalion in France on 29th March 1917 and was killed in action on 23rd April 1917.

He is remembered in Backworth on B1.03 and in West Allotment on W102.01 and W102.02
