“After a long illness, caused through being severely gassed whilst engaged with the Royal Field Artillery in France in 1917, Mr. Dennis Kelly, whose death took place on Thursday, was interred in the Catholic Cemetery at Annitsford on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to joining the colours in 1916 Mr. Kelly was for many years manager at the Astley Arms Hotel, Seaton Delaval. When the South African war broke out he served with the Northumberland Yeomanry as a bugler, being then only 18 years of age.
The coffin was met at the cemetery by Fr. Mercier, of New Hartley, who conducted the burial service.”
