1. “I am still hoping to gather some information about a memorial plaque which was placed in the Methodist church at Seaton Delaval by the parents of Capt. ROBERT RUTHERFORD, my husband’s uncle, who was killed on 15th September 1916 while serving with the D.L.I. Robert has no known grave and his name is on the War Memorial at Seaton Delaval. As he had been an organist at the church the brass plate with his name was placed near the organ. When the Methodist Church closed in Seaton Delaval, the plaque was given to my brother-in-law Robert Edmonds of Tynemouth. Sadly, Robert Edmonds died a few months ago and I feel I should wait a little while before asking his widow for information. Before joining the D.L.I. Robert Rutherford had been Deputy Head at a school in West Moor. In November 2001 I attended a service in the new school to dedicate the Roll of Honour which names Robert and his former pupils. The children made the service come alive” Letter from Mrs. I. Edmonds
Robert Rutherford is remembered at Seaton Delaval on S7.03 S7.04 and S7.10 and at Killingworth on K9.03
