Colin Boyd has provided the following:
Ernest was serving in the Portsmouth Battalion of the Royal Marine Light Infantry and was the son of John William and Catherine of 8, Melton Terrace, New Hartley.
Ernest was wounded in Gallipoli on 6th May 1915 suffering shrapnel wounds to the back and the right eye.
After rejoining the Battalion on 11th July 1915 Ernest was posted as wounded and missing assumed killed in action on 13th July 1915.
