The CWGC replied to a query regarding the spelling of the name thus:

"Regarding the spelling of the surname, I have checked our archives and can confirm that our spelling is consistent throughout, this being the name we were given by the Service Authorities after the war.

I can also confirm that the spelling 'Ramsbotham' was used on the FV form. These 'Final Verification Forms' were sent to each casualty's next of kin, using the address supplied by the authorities. The purpose of these forms was to ask the families to verify the details of the casualties, to fill in any 'blanks' such as ages and forenames (if they so wished), and to supply their own names and hometown address for inclusion in the cemetery and memorial registers. In this particular case, Sergeant Ramsbotham's father, Edmund, filled out this form."

Edmund Ramsbotham is remembered in Seaton Delaval on S7.09
