Phillips, E., Pte., 1942

In Earsdon Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Private Edward Phillips, serving with the Home Guard, who died 16/08/1942.

The headstone which is partly obscured in the photograph reads:

In loving memory of
Edward
beloved husband of
Margaret . . . . .
died Aug. 16th 1942 . . . . . . . years
Also . . . . . ?(the above Margaret)
died Sep. 14 . . . .

In front of this is a stone flower holder which has the Northumberland Fusiliers badge incised at the top and which reads:

As a token of
respect to
Pte. E. Phillips
from Officers,
N.C.Os and Men
of H. Coy. 6th Batt.
R.N.F. Home Guard.

The name of Ernest Phillips does not appear on a local War Memorial.
