In Cramlington Old Burial Ground is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 2085706 Gunner Joseph Simpson serving with the 348 Battery, 37 Searchlight Regiment Royal Artillery who died 31/07/1943.

The family headstone reads:

In loving memory of
Joseph
beloved son of Joseph and Sarah Simpson,
died 31st July 1943, aged 24 years.
The above Joseph dear husband of Sarah
died 27th Feb. 1963, aged 74 years.
also the above Sarah,
died 26th Aug. 1975, aged 86 years.
also their dear son Kenneth
died 2nd Aug. 1988, aged 66 years.
