Wilkinson, L.W., Able Seaman, 1916
In Portianos Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/297 Able Seaman Lewis William Wilkinson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who died 09/01/1916.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Lewis was born on September 17th 1884. He was working as a miner living with his wife, Charlotte at 7, Atkin Street, Camperdown, Burradon when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on October 10th 1914. This address was later changed to 7, Sydney Street, Blyth.

He joined the Benbow Battalion on February 22nd 1915 and transferred to the Drake Battalion on June 12th 1915 where he was appointed Battalion Cook on July 28th 1915.

Lewis was accidentally killed on January 9th 1916.

His name does not appear on any local memorial.
