NEWBROUGH

Millican, J., AC, 1938
Aircraftman Joe Millican lived at Whistlecock, Newbrough. He was stationed at RAF Acklington. On 14th November 1938 he was to go home on leave but stood in to go on a short training flight when another man was taken ill. The plane nosedived into the sea. He was buried in St.Peter’s Churchyard with full military honours. This was, of course, before the war started.

R.A.F. Acklington Elizabeth Stewart, Amble Local History Group 2002, No ISBN, tells the story of Aircraftman Millican.
