Rolfe, D., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of KX/401Able Seaman David Rolfe, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 06/05/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

David was born on 18th December 1891. He was working as a miner living with his father, Robert at Shilburnhaugh Colliery, Falstone, Northumberland when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 1st September 1914.

He transferred to the RNVR on 9th September 1914.

David joined the Hood Battalion on the same day and was posted as missing, later reported as killed in action in Gallipoli on 6th May 1915.

Lt. A.R. Hughes stated "..... Rolfe was wounded and fell by my side. I spoke to him and received no reply......Rolfe was shot through the mouth and was totally unconscious."

David Rolfe is remembered in Falstone on F6.01, F6.03 and F6.04
