The Hexham Weekly News 28/02/1919 reports:

The Late Lance-Corporal Athole Laing.

A large number if people attended the Wednesday at Corbridge the funeral of Lance Corporal Athole Ogilvie Laing, ASC., attached to the 174th Siege Battery, R.G.A., son of the late Mr. F.M. Laing and Mrs. Laing, Farnley Grange, Corbridge. Lance Corporal Laing’s death occurred with tragic suddenness at Newcastle Central Railway Station on Saturday. He had been two years on active service in France, and was home on leave. Apparently in his usual health, he visited his brothers, Mr. Farquhar Laing, in the city shortly before taking the train with his wife for Edinburgh. He collapsed just before the train started and died in one of the waiting rooms to which he had been removed. (There follows a list of mourners). The coffin was carried from Farnley Grange to the cemetery on a rolley.

The Rev. C.E.A. Blackburn, Vicar of Corbridge, was the officiating clergyman.

Athole Ogilvie Laing is remembered at Corbridge on C52.01, C52.02 and C52.04 and at Hexham H51.06
