In Bayeux War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1697067 Leading Aircraftman John Routledge Surtees, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 25/07/1944.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

L.A.C. Surtees was with the Headquarters of the Second Tactical Air Force in Normandy, and is listed as 'Died on Active Service' in R.A.F. Casualty Communique No. 447 in Flight Magazine of November 30th 1944, page 598.

He is remembered in Bardon Mill on B103.01, at Beltingham on B21.02, at Haltwhistle on H5.06 and at Henshaw on H41.01
