but memories cling

Sgt. Smith was serving with 512 Sqdn. He was a crew member of Dakota IV KG369 which left Broadwell on a night navigation exercise. On returning, they mistook Chedworth airfield for Broadwell, and with an incorrectly set altimeter attempted to land, struck trees and crashed. All three crew were killed.
