On the Loos Memorial is the name of 11294 Private Henry Forster Clark, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 25/09/1915.

Susan Carmichael has provided the following.

Henry Forster Clark was the son of Joseph and Martha (nee Beaumont) Clark of Bomarsund, Stakeford, Choppington. He was born in the 3rd quarter of 1893, his birth was registered at Tynemouth.

His parents were married in South Shields, County Durham, in the 4th quarter of 1888.

By 1891 Joseph and Martha, and their baby daughter, were living in West Row, Cowpen. Joseph was a coal miner.

The 1901 census shows the family address as 18, West Row, Isabella Pit, Cowpen. The family had grown considerably over the previous ten years, Henry had 4 sisters and 3 brothers. His Father was now a Deputy Overman at the local coal mine.

Another house move happened before the 1911 census. Their address was 1, West Terrace, Stakeford, Choppington. Now Henry had 6 sisters and 4 brothers. Two of his sisters, twins born in 1900, both died in 1901.

Henry was working as a Pony Driver below ground.
