Roberts, J.S., A/Smn., 1915
Colin Boyd has provided the following:

John Samuel Roberts was born on 21st September 1889. He was working as a miner living at 44, Meldon Terrace, Newbiggin by the Sea when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 2nd November 1914. His next of kin was given as his brother, William living in Ashington but this was later changed to his uncle, Richard Husband of 192, Hawthorn Road, Ashington.

John joined the 4th Platoon, "B" Company of the Collingwood Battalion on 4th February 1915 and was admitted to the 1st (RN) Field Ambulance on 4th June 1915 with a sprained knee.

After rejoining he was transferred to the Howe Battalion on 12th June 1915. John was admitted to the 15th Stationary Hospital on Mudros on 27th October 1915 suffering from Enteric Fever and died there on 18th December 1915.

There is no CWGC entry for Able Seaman Roberts and his name does not appear on any local memorials.
