In St. John's Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 23/1534 Private James Clark Grant serving with the 23rd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 21/07/1916.

The headstone reads:-

In loving memory of
Pte. James Clarke Grant
Tyneside Scottish
who died from wounds received
in France July 1 1916
aged 20 years 10 months.
