Dixon, W.B., Sgt., 1944
In Hanover War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1678171 Sergeant William Beattie Dixon, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 22/03/1944.

Sgt./Air Gunner Dixon was serving with 626 Squadron and was a member of the crew of a Lancaster III bomber JB599 UM Q2 which left Wickenby on a sortie to Frankfurt. It was shot down by a night fighter near Lübbecke.

Aged 18, he was reputed to be the youngest person to be killed on RAF operations.

Lancaster JB599 UM-Q2 had departed Wickenby at 1859 for Ops Frankfurt

It was intercepted at 5900M in the Osnabruck area by a Night-Fighter captained by Oblt Arnold Brinkmann (Stab I/NJG3) and shot down at 2130.
