Sgt./Air Gunner Dixon was serving with 626 Squadron and was a member of the crew of a Lancaster III bomber JB599 UM Q2 which left Wickenby on a sortie to Frankfurt. It was shot down by a night fighter near Lübbecke.

It was intercepted at 5900M in the Osnabruck area by a Night-Fighter captained by Oblt Arnold Brinkmann (Stab I/NJG3) and shot down at 2130. William Beattie Dixonis remembered in Cambois on C6.03
