In the Hargicourt British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 23/1217 Corporal Walter Young, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (Tyneside Scottish) 23rd Battalion who died 09/09/1917 (10/09/1917 is some records)

Derek Johnstone and Carole Fife have provided the following:

Walter was born at Sleekburn, Northumberland in 1895 to parents Walter Young, a hewer in the coal mines, from Felton in Northumberland and Jane Young from Guide Post in the same county.

The 1901 Census shows Walter, aged 6, living with his family at Bridge Street, Cambois, with siblings Thomas 11, George 8 and John 2.

In 1911 the Young family has moved to 27, Boca Chica, Cambois where Walter, aged 16, was working in the coal mine as a pony driver.

Walter enlisted at Bedlington Northumberland and was awarded the Medaille Militaire which is the third highest award of the French Republic for meritorious service and acts of bravery in action against an enemy force.

Walter Young is remembered in Cambois on C6.02
