Joseph Robson was born at Choppington about 1893 to parents William Robson, a hewer in the coal mines and Mary Jane Robson from Redesdale Northumberland.

The 1911 Census shows the Robson family living at 8, Chapel Row, Cambois, where Joseph’s father was still working in the coal mines; Joseph, now 18, was employed as a tailor. The address had four rooms and family of ten was staying there at this time.

Military records show Joseph enlisted in Blyth Northumberland. Records held by CWGC show Joseph was the son of the late William Robson (Died 1914) and Mary Jane Robson of 8, Chapel Row, Cambois, Blyth. Research did not show Joseph was married.
