In X Farm Cemetery is the Commonwealth War commemoration for 10/5641 Private James Edward Christie, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (10th Battalion) who died 26/01/1916

James Edward Christie was born at Cambois, Northumberland in 1896 to parents Edward Christie, a coal miner from County Durham and Hannah Christie from Cramlington in Northumberland. James’s family was living at 14, Boathouse Terrace, Cambois in 1891 before he was born and in 1901 when he was four years old his family lived at 51, Boathouse Terrace.

The 1911 Census shows James was 14 years old and working in the coal mines as a pony driver. The census shows a large family which includes siblings Elizabeth 22, Ethel 18, John Basil 16, David 12, Adam 10, Hannah 8, Harriet 4 and Wilfred aged 2 living in five rooms.

Military records show James was a volunteer, who enlisted at Blyth into the Northumberland Fusiliers and went out to France 25th August 1915. His effects went to his father Edward indicating he was not married.
