On the Helles Memorial is the name of 16025 Private Robert Houlison, serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales Own) 9th Battalion who died 09/08/1915.

Derek Johnstone and Carole Fife have provided the following:

Robert Houlison was born at Cambois, Northumberland in 1887 to parents Robert Houlison, a colliery labourer, born at Norham, a parish in North Northumberland, and Mary Tully Houlison (nee Metcalf) born in Newsham in the same county.

The 1901 Census shows the Houlison (Houliston in some records) family living at 22, Gees House, Cambois Northumberland when Robert is eight years old. In the house at this time was an older brother Thomas aged 18.

In 1911, when Robert was 14, his family lived at 18, Cowgate, Cambois where Robert was employed in the coal mines as a pony driver. His older brother Thomas was still in the household along with sibling sisters Elizabeth, 24, and Mary Jane, aged 2.

Military records show Robert enlisted in Blyth, Northumberland and his effects went to his father indicating he was not married.

His Medal Card (attached) shows he entered the Balkan Theatre of War 11th July 1915 and died the following month.
