In the Queens Cemetery, Bucquoy, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 38170 Private Charles Christopher Beattie, serving with the Gloucestershire Regiment (12th Battalion) who died 23/08/1918.

Derek Johnstone and Carole Fife have provided the following:

Charles Christopher Beattie was born at Cambois, Northumberland in 1898 the son of John Beattie, born at Bedlington, Northumberland and Elizabeth Beattie from Cambois.

In 1901, Charles, aged 2, was living at 15, Mawburn Terrace, Cambois, where his father was employed in the coal mines.

By 1911 Charles, still at school aged 12, was living with his parents at Old Institute, Cambois and sibling, William, who was two years old.

Military records for Charles show he was originally in the Northumberland Fusiliers before joining the Gloucestershire Regiment with the service number 38170. His effects went to his mother Elizabeth indicating he was not married.

Charles Christopher Beattie is remembered in Cambois on C6.02 and C6.04
