McAllister, J., F/Sgt., 1943
On the Runnymede Memorial is the name of 1079144 Flight Sergeant John McAllister, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 19/02/1943.

Sgt. McAllister was killed when Avro Lancaster I R5743 OL-K of 83 Sqn was lost on a mission to Wilhemshaven. The Lancaster was lost without trace, and thought to have come down in the sea, with the loss of all seven crew members.

Lancaster R5743 OL-K had departed Wyton at 1816 for Ops Wilhelmshaven

It was intercepted at 1600M over the North Sea nr Heligoland by a Night-Fighter captained by Oblt Hans Gref (IV/NJG3) and shot down at 2032 for his 3rd Abschuss
