In Albert Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 20/1279 Private James Foster, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (Tyneside Scottish) 20th Battalion who died 11/06/1916.

Derek Johnstone and Carole Fife have provided the following:

James Foster was born at Cambois, Northumberland. His parents were Thomas, a coal miner, and Eliza Foster who were both born at Brampton in Cumbria. In 1901 James was 3 years old and his family which included his sister Mary aged 1 lived at 24, Cowgate, Cambois. No record of James could be found in the 1911 Census and military records did not yield any further information other than he enlisted at Belington, Northumberland.

James is shown in a group photo in the book Tyneside Scottish 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd (Service Battalion) Northumberland Fusiliers written by Graham Stewart and John Sheen. This photo was taken an Alnwick, Northumberland when he was undergoing training.
