14th May 1917 age 20.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Robert was born on 16th August 1896. He was working as a miner living with his parents, Clement and Mary Florence at 1, Blackburns Buildings, Choppington Station when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 27th November 1914.

He joined the 2nd Platoon, "C" Company of the Collingwood Battalion on 4th March 1915 and transferred to the Anson Battalion on 8th June 1915.

Robert was badly wounded on 28th April 1917 and was invalided to the UK on 5th May 1917. Robert died from the effects of a gun shot wound to the left buttock at 10.20 pm on 14th May 1917 in Highfield Military Hospital, Liverpool.

The award of the Military Medal was gazetted on 9th July 1917 after his death.
